Surface Studies
In this series of work I am concentrating on the surface of the painting. Texture, picture plane and composition are elemental in the creation of paintings. The laboratory for these studies is the established form of a “Painting” on a wall. The conceit of a painting is the notion that culture, skill and intellect can be expressed with the visual elements of shape, color, texture and line, just as the conceit of a book is that reality can be expressed exclusively with grammar and words. As such, the value of “paintings” and the evolution (theoretical history) of Painting offers profound insight into the nature of man.
